The United States of America acting through the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) has agreed to provide a grant assistance of US Dollars402million (Equivalent to about NRs. 38.60 billion) to the government of Nepal fora period of five years. Amid a ceremony, Mr. Madhu K. Marasini, Joint Secretary and Chief of International Economic Cooperation Coordination Division of the Ministry of Finance, and Dr. Beth Dunford, Mission Director of USAID/Nepal, signed an assistance agreement on behalf of their respective governments today at the Ministry of Finance.

 

This grant assistance will be utilized over the next five years until September 30, 2019 in areas of strengthening democratic processes, improving governance, maternal and child health and literacy, increasing economic growth, and addressing the challenges of food insecurity and climate change. The assistance will be mobilized to meet the priorities of the Government of Nepal as stipulated in the 13th periodic plan (2013-16) and Development Cooperation Policy, 2014.

 

Signatory on behalf of the Government of Nepal, Mr. Marasini expressed his appreciation to the people and the Government of the United States of America for this assistance and also for their continued interest and support in the socio-economic development of Nepal. Similarly, on behalf of the U.S. Government, Dr. Dunford, reaffirmed her commitment to support Nepal's development endeavors.
