Secretary Mr. Madhu Kumar Marasini is in civil service of Nepal for over 30 years. His immediate past position was the Financial Comptroller General of Nepal. Prior to this Mr. Marasini had served as the Secretary in the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Planning, in Lumbini province, Nepal. In the past Mr. Marasini has worked almost 25 years within the Ministry of Finance in different capacities, that includes, Joint Secretary, International Economic Cooperation Coordination Division, IECCD, Joint Secretary, Budget and Program Division, Deputy Director General, Inland Revenue Department and Deputy Director General in Department of Investigation of Money Laundering, among others. Mr. Marasini is one of the members of the core team of tax reform in Nepal that was initiated in early 2000 AD with the introduction of Value Added Tax in Nepal.

Mr. Marasini has also held several international positions. He has served as the Consul General of Nepal, in New York, USA. He has also worked as an advisor to the Executive director at the Southeast Asia Constituency of the World Bank Group, Washington DC, USA. Mr. Marasini was the Chief Negotiator for the establishment of the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank, AIIB, Chairman of the Board of Directors of SAARC Development Fund, and, Alternate Governor of Nepal for IMF, among others.

Mr. Marasini was the focal person in organizing the International Conference on Nepal’s Reconstruction immediately after the massive earthquake in Nepal in April 2015. The conference was successfully concluded with a pledging of over $4.1 billion by the international donors.

Academically, Mr. Marasini has earned Master's degree from the Australian National University, Canberra, Australia in International and development Economics, Kennedy School of Government, Harvard University, executive education in public finance, Carlse Duisberg College, Bremen, Germany, Diploma in Management, Master's degree in Public Administration and Bachelor's degree in Law from Tribhuvan University, Nepal. He has conducted several other short term courses from different institutions across Asia, Europe, and Northern America.

Secretary Marasini lives with his wife Sirjana and two sons, Saurav and Spandan.
