Government of the Republic of India has agreed to provide technical and financial support for the development of infrastructures at four border check points along Nepal-India border.
According to the Memorandum of Understanding signed between the two governments at the Ministry of Finance today, Government of the Republic of India will provide technical and financial support for the development of necessary infrastructures at four land border check points- namely Biratnagar, Birgunj, Bhairahawa and Nepalgunj. Infrastructure development at these points includes link roads, administrative blocks for custom offices, laboratories, staff quarters, security posts, quarantine check posts and other facilities. It is estimated that approximately Rs. 5 Arab 6 Crore will be required for the development of infrastructures at these border points in Nepal and India. The development of necessary infrastructures at these important border points is expected to reduce the transit time and facilitate the custom clearance formalities thereby contributing to ease the movement of people across the border and improve trade transaction between the two countries. The project will be jointly implemented by the two governments.
Mr. Bhanu Prasad Acharya, Secretary, Ministry of Finance, and His Excellency Mr. Shiv Shankar Mukherjee, Ambassador of the Republic of India to the Kingdom of Nepal signed the Memorandum of Understanding on behalf of their respective governments.
His Majesty's Government of Nepal has expressed its sincere appreciation and thanks to the Government of the Republic of India for its continued assistance in the socio-economic development of Nepal.
